Prepping for your Photoshoot

Getting Ready

Your Ultimate Guide to a Successful Session.

Communication is Key!

First things first, let’s chat! Then we will work together on a vision board to make sure that we are on the same page for the vibe you are going for in your portrait session - it’s your time to shine, after all!

Let's Have Fun!

Creating a personalized playlist of songs can be a great way to help you get into character and set the tone for your session!

Seeking inspiration? Don’t underestimate the power of Pinterest – make a board and share it with me! Next, scroll through Instagram using the trending hashtag #PortraitGoals to explore the latest trends, poses, and outfit ideas.

We can discuss locations and lighting, and feel free to bring along any quirky props you might have. What makes you unique? Bring your favorite items – whether it's a hat, a funky accessory, or anything that speaks to your personal style. If you have specific prop ideas, don't hesitate to share them with me. This is your chance to create a personalized shoot that is uniquely yours.

What to Wear, What to Wear!?

  1. BE COMFORTABLE! Trust me when I say you don’t want to look uncomfortable or in pain in your pictures.
  2. Think you - just more elevated! Are you always in Jeans and a t-shirt? - Now may not be the right time to pull out a tux! Clean, well fitting, and wrinkle free is the way to go!
  3. Let’s collaborate! It is always my goal to make sure you are looking your best so I want to make sure you will look great in whatever location we choose.

When picking outfits, keep in mind that we want you to stand out in the best possible way. Avoid wearing clothing with bold logos or large graphics, as they can be distracting in photos. The focus should be on you, not the brand you're wearing.

Picture-Perfect: Styling Tips for Your Portrait Session

Consider the location of our shoot, and let's make sure your outfit complements rather than clashes with the surroundings. If we're shooting in a lush green park, earthy tones or vibrant colors can pop beautifully. On an urban backdrop, bolder and contrasting colors might work great.

For a timeless and polished look, opt for solids or simple patterns. These choices often translate well in photos, ensuring that the attention remains on your radiant personality. If you're unsure about what colors will flatter your skin tone or match the location, don't hesitate to reach out.

Mother Nature can be unpredictable, so let's be ready for anything. If we're shooting outdoors, pack accordingly for changing weather conditions. Rain or shine, we've got a plan in place to ensure your photoshoot is as epic as you are.

  • When it comes to outfit coordination for your photoshoot, think of it as curating a visual symphony. Here are some playful yet practical tips to ensure everyone's outfit hits the right note:
  • Color Harmony: Choose a color palette that complements rather than clashes. Harmonious tones create a cohesive look, making the group visually appealing. Feel free to mix in a pop of color for that extra flair.
  • Patterns and Textures: A subtle mix of patterns and textures adds depth to the overall aesthetic. Avoid overwhelming patterns that might distract from the main focus—you!
  • Individual Style, Unified Vibe: Embrace individual styles within a unified theme. Whether it's a casual, boho, or chic vibe you're going for, make sure everyone is on the same page to maintain a cohesive feel.
  • Avoid Logos and Overly Busy Prints: Loud logos and overly busy prints can steal the spotlight. Opt for simplicity to keep the focus on your group's personalities.
  • Layers and Accessories: Add layers and accessories to elevate the ensemble. Scarves, hats, or statement jewelry can add that perfect finishing touch.
  • Comfort is Key: Above all, prioritize comfort. When you feel good in what you're wearing, it reflects in your photos. Ensure everyone is at ease in their chosen outfits.

Time to glam up! Your hairstyle should reflect your personality, whether it's wild and free or sleek and chic. If you're into makeup, go for it! A touch of glam can add that extra sparkle to your photos. Remember, this is about enhancing your features and feeling fabulous.

Posing Pro: Boosting Comfort and Confidence Before Your Shoot

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall: Spend some quality time in front of the mirror experimenting with different poses. Check out how your body moves, try various angles, and see what feels most comfortable and true to your style. This self-discovery process will help you get familiar with your best angles and expressions.

Don't be afraid to get expressive! Think of something funny, heartwarming, or downright silly to evoke genuine smiles and capture the essence of your personality. Whether it's a laugh, a wink, or a playful gesture, practicing these expressions will bring an authentic touch to your photos.
