Some sessions just stick with you—and this one? Absolutely unforgettable. Barret and Maddy’s surprise proposal at The Pearl in San Antonio was filled with laughter, emotion, and joy that was impossible to miss. From the moment he dropped to one knee to the celebratory ice cream stop at Lick, this proposal wasn’t just about the question—it was about the story, the people, and the love behind it all.
Why The Pearl Made the Perfect Proposal Spot
The Pearl is one of San Antonio’s most iconic locations, and for good reason. Its blend of historic charm, vibrant energy, and romantic architecture makes it a dream location for photographers—and for proposals. Barret and Maddy, who were in town from out of state, already had a love for San Antonio, so choosing The Pearl as the backdrop made the moment even more meaningful.
Whether you're surrounded by the weekend bustle of the market or tucked away under the arches by Hotel Emma, there’s a corner here for every love story—and this one brought all the magic.
The Moment She Said Yes
Maddy’s reaction? Pure gold. Her surprise, joy, and full-body “YES!” made this one of my favorite proposal reactions I’ve ever captured. There’s something so powerful about documenting a genuine, unscripted moment like that—when all the planning fades away and it’s just two people, fully in it.
The Pearl’s architecture and natural light gave us so many gorgeous angles, but it was the way they looked at each other that stole the show.
Turning a Proposal into a Date
After the big moment, I suggested we head toward Lick Ice Cream for a little celebratory treat—and I’m so glad we did. One of my favorite memories from my own wedding was eating ice cream in my dress, and I knew we could recreate that same joy for Maddy.
We captured the ring over the cup (yes, it's just as sweet as it sounds), some playful scoops, and more candid moments that made the session feel like a date, not just a photoshoot. It’s the little things that turn big memories into personal ones.

Strolling the Riverwalk & Hotel Emma
From there, we wandered toward the Riverwalk, capturing cozy portraits full of soft light and connection. As golden hour set in, we circled back toward Hotel Emma, where the architecture, ivy-covered walls, and warm light gave us the dreamiest final shots. Every photo felt like a page in a love story—romantic, joyful, and totally them.
Proposal Photography in San Antonio: Make It Yours
What I love most about proposal photography is how deeply personal it is. Barret planned every detail to create a moment that felt like them, and it showed in every frame. If you’re planning a proposal—whether you’re a San Antonio local or just visiting—pick a spot that means something to you. And don’t be afraid to make it a whole experience: get ice cream, take a stroll, celebrate your story.
